Trenchless sewer pipe lining has been around for more than a decade now. Unfortunately, not many people are aware of that yet. This includes some of our customers at Roberts Plumbing Hydro Jet & Rooter. Some of the services that we offer include, but are not limited to, sewer and drain smoke testing, hydro jetting cleaning, trenchless sewer pipe replacement, sewer and drain pipe descaling, and sewer and video camera locating.

Our office is in Northridge, California but we provide services to as far as Canoga Park, California. We have operated as a licensed plumbing company for more than two decades now. Our customers enjoy the 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on call service we provide.

Today, we often use the trenchless technology to perform our work. It is not only convenient and effective for our team but it also saves our customers the needless spending of time and money, which they often encounter, when working with other service providers. One of the trenchless services we offer is trenchless sewer pipe lining.

WHAT IS TRENCHLESS SEWER PIPE LINING?

As the name implies, this trenchless sewer pipe lining method of repairing or replacing sewer lines does not require digging up the entire property to access the pipes from under the ground. With just enough opening to the sewer line and an exit point, in the case of replacements, the job can easily be done by our team.

There are at least two methods of sewer pipe lining that are convenient because they do not require extensive digging. The first type is known as sliplining and the second one is CIPP or cured-in-place-pipe. The similarity of these two is that they both line the walls of existing sewer pipes. This means the old pipe will not be removed from where it was installed; it will only be repaired by either one of these two methods.

SLIPLINING

Sliplining has been around for quite a while, even before the trenchless technology was introduced and accepted as an effective means of providing plumbing services to customers. The materials used in the new pipe can be welded steel, PVC, or HDPE. To install this, a receiving pit and an insertion pit must be dug.

The pits are not as large as the trenched method’s excavation. They are only big enough to fit the equipment into the pipe. The new pipe to be “slipped” into the existing pipe will have a smaller diameter than the original.

CIPP

The Cured-In-Place-Pipe method of trenchless sewer pipe lining works the same way as sliplining, except the material used is not PVC or welded steel. In the CIPP method, an epoxy filled liner is inserted with a bladder into the old pipe. The liner is then expanded using the bladder to take the form of the existing sewer pipe then left there for a few hours to “cure in place”, as its name indicates.

Once the liner has cured in place, our customers can use their sewers like it is brand new. To ensure that the CIPP method works, we first do initial inspections using a sewer camera. The inspection will help us determine whether CIPP is the best method to use or we need to revert to something else.
