Solving a sewer problem can be a difficult task. Sewer pipes in your property are buried underground and travel from your home to the city’s sewer main, which is usually located under the street. This means that the sewer line can be underneath your lawn, driveway, or patio, and to reach it in order to perform a repair, any lawn and concrete will have to be removed.
The beautiful weather we enjoy in Studio City lets us build incredible landscapes, and the last thing we want to do is destroy our garden to reach the sewer line. This is why a new method was invented not so long ago that involves minimal digging and is a recommended alternative, instead of excavating the old-fashioned way.
This new method is known as trenchless pipe lining, and it mainly consists of 3 main steps: inspection, cleanup, and lining. This is how it works:
Inspection- When there is a problem with the sewer line, it is essential to know what exactly is causing it. Treating a clog is different than covering a crack or fixing a missing pipe section, so we need to check out the pipes. To do this, we use a small video camera that is sent into the sewer line. A skilled technician operates it remotely and checks the live video feed on an external monitor.
With this device, we not only know what the problem is, but also its location. The high-quality images allow us to identify any current and potential issues that need to be corrected, so we can give you an accurate diagnostic and eliminate any guesswork. A CCTV inspection is also a way to be sure that a pipe lining repair can be done, since some sewer lines can be too damaged to be worked on and a replacement might be the only option.
Cleanup– If our video inspection shows the sewer line in good condition and the operator considers that a pipe lining solution is possible, we need to clean the pipes and remove any debris. One of our preferred techniques to do this is called hydro jetting, where we use specialized nozzles attached to high-pressure hoses. These hoses blast any gunk inside the pipes with ultra-high-pressure water streams that are powerful enough to get rid of tree roots and similar tough obstructions.
Lining – Once the line is clean, a flexible tube coated with a unique epoxy formula is pushed into it until it reaches the area that needs to be repaired. The tube is then inflated, and the epoxy is left there to cure for a few hours. Once it hardens, it creates a pipe within the pipe, which seals cracks, eliminates leaks, and replaces missing or broken pipe sections.
