Steps for Keeping Your Pipes Clean Year Round in Northridge

You’re worried about your pipes getting clogged and not being able to fix it. What if you just prevented the clog entirely? At Roberts Plumbing Hydro Jet & Rooter, we recommend that you clean your pipes every few months, either with drain cleaning services or through some other means.

Step 1: Consult a Professional

Whenever you’re in doubt, call a professional. A professional can tell you what kind of help you need- don’t go the DIY route with any kind of solutions such as baking soda and vinegar with hot water rinse, or Drano, or even Liquid Plumber. These chemicals can actually cause real damage to your pipes and create an even larger problem, like a leak or a fracture in your pipe. Resist the urge to handle it yourself and call a professional.

Step 2: Request Drain Cleaning Services

Most plumbers will come in with a plunger and a machine called a snake. This machine is inserted into the sewer or drain through a pre-established access point, like a cleanout, and pushed deep down to the clog. It then rotates through the clog, clearing the pipe of the blockage. It’s the cheapest way of clearing drains and clogs, however, it’s not always the most efficient method.

In comparison, hydro jetting is a more natural system of clearing pipes. Hydro jetting involves high pressure water being shot through the system, clearing away clogs and waste from inside of the pipes. Hydro jetting also takes very little time to complete and is oftentimes a painless process completed easily by a technician. This process can be done on pipes from 1 ½ to 12-inch pipes thanks to the different nozzles that are available.

Step 3: Schedule a Cleaning Session Every 3-6 Months

Here at Roberts Plumbing Hydro Jet & Rooter, we also employ the use of sewer camera inspections to ensure your pipes are squeaky-clean by the time we’re done. Get this done every few months, or at least twice a year, for the cleanest, most clog-free pipes you’ve ever had!
